James Krafft
This captures all the grit and soul that encapsulates their live performances and makes them so addictive to listen to! I find myself torn between head banging to the chunky rhythms and just swaying to Joni's gorgeous vocals

about
Cutting their teeth with guitars that groan like a rusty switchblade, paired with sharply observational lyrics which skewer the mores of the surface-level world around us, Fräulein’s debut single, “Pretty People” is a scathing statement of intent.
“The song is about refusing to be small, even if the people around you are telling you to be.”
Fräulein are Joni Samuels (vocals, guitar) and Karsten van der Tol (drums). Originally hailing from Northern Ireland and Netherlands respectively, the now London-based duo formed around Bristol in 2018, through a chance encounter at a friend’s jam night. Though Fräulein build their brand of lo-fi garage rock from percussion outwards, it is Joni Samuels’ smokey vocals that prove to be their most unforgiving instrument.
lyrics
In their sights
Circle of
Pretty people
Symmetrical
Smiling
Hissing behind their backs
Always fun
It’s not real
They can smell
How different I feel
I can’t fall over them
Can’t bring myself to
Kiss their hem
Empress
New clothes
Empress
Heavy words
Float around
Soft as light
Out of place
Misfit choice
You float through life
I am great
To add on
Plainclothes jester
Dancing to your song
I can’t fall
Over them
Can’t bring myself to
Kiss their hem
Empress
New clothes
Empress
Wanna be in your court
You can stop it
Wanna be in your court
You can stop it all
Wanna be in your court
You control it all
Wanna be in your court
Pretty People
In their sights
Circle of
Pretty people
